[by:1001hn]
[00:00.30]Chapters one through nighteen of songs of Innocence
[00:04.74]By William Blake.
[00:05.71]Chapter 1
[00:06.31]
[00:07.48]Introduction
[00:09.86]Piping down the valleys wild ,
[00:11.85]Piping songs of pleasant glee,
[00:14.19]On a cloud I saw a child,
[00:16.32]And he laughing said to me:
[00:18.76]“pipe a song about a Lamb!”
[00:21.06]So I piped with merry cheer.
[00:23.18]“Piper,pipe that song again.”
[00:25.55]So I piped:he wept to hear.
[00:28.44]“Drop thy pipe,thy happy pipe;
[00:30.64]Sing thy songs of happy cheer!”
[00:33.52]So I sang the same again,
[00:35.55]While he wept with joy to hear.
[00:38.30]“Piper,sit thee down and write
[00:40.38]in a book,that all may read.”
[00:43.32]So he vanish’d from my sight;
[00:45.05]And I pluck’d a hollow reed,
[00:47.29]And I made a rural pen,
[00:49.18]And I stain’d the water clear,
[00:51.32]And I wrote my happy songs
[00:53.40]Every child may joy to hear.
[00:55.84]And of chapter 1.
[00:57.03]
[00:58.67]Chapter 2
[01:00.06]The Shepherd
[01:01.79]How sweet is the Shepherd’s sweet lot!
[01:05.88]From the morn to the evening he stays;
[01:08.93]He shall follow his sheep all the day,
[01:11.94]And his tougue shall be filled with praise.
[01:15.05]For he hears the lambs’ innocent call,
[01:18.10]And he hears the ewes’ tender reply.
[01:21.33]He is watching while they are in peace,
[01:24.66]For they know when their Shepherd is nigh.
[01:28.28]And of chapter 2.
[01:29.34]
[01:30.99]Chapter 3
[01:32.13]The Echoing Green
[01:34.48]The sun does arise,
[01:36.21]And make happy the skies;
[01:37.86]The merry bells ring ,
[01:39.61]To welcome the Spring;
[01:41.51]The skylark and thrush,
[01:43.28]The birds of the bush,
[01:45.14]Sing louder around
[01:46.69]To the bells' cheerful sound;
[01:48.75]While our sports shall be seen
[01:50.70]On the echoing green.
[01:52.83]Old John, with white hair,
[01:54.67]Does laugh away care,
[01:56.78]Sitting under the oak,
[01:58.49]Among the old folk.
[02:00.13]They laugh at our play,
[02:01.95]And soon they all say,
[02:03.74]“Such, such were the joys
[02:05.70]When we all -- girls and boys --
[02:08.30]In our youth-time were seen
[02:10.47]On the echoing green.”;
[02:12.37]Till the little ones, weary,
[02:14.41]No more can be merry:
[02:16.43]The sun does descend,
[02:17.97]And our sports have an end.
[02:20.16]Round the laps of their mothers
[02:22.22]Many sisters and brothers,
[02:24.00]Like birds in their nest,
[02:25.72]Are ready for rest,
[02:27.74]And sport no more seen
[02:29.64]On the darkening green.
[02:31.20]And of chapter 3.
[02:33.42]
[02:36.21]Chapter 4
[02:37.68]The Lamb
[02:39.68]Little lamb, who make thee
[02:41.84]Dost thou know who made thee,
[02:44.00]Gave thee life, and bid thee feed
[02:46.06]By the stream and o'er the mead;
[02:48.41]Gave thee clothing of delight,
[02:50.24]Softest clothing, wolly, bright;
[02:52.65]Gave thee such a tender voice,
[02:55.25]Making all the vales rejoice?
[02:57.51]Little lamb, who made thee?
[02:59.90]Dost thou know who made thee?
[03:02.03]Little lamb, I'll tell thee;
[03:03.96]Little lamb, I'll tell thee:
[03:05.89]He is called by thy name,
[03:08.10]For He calls himself a Lamb
[03:09.98]He is meek, and He is mild,
[03:12.42]He became a little child.
[03:14.93]I a child, and thou a lamb,
[03:16.95]We are called by his name.
[03:19.32]Little Lamb, God bless thee!
[03:21.10]Little Lamb, God bless thee!
[03:23.55]And of chapter 4.
[03:25.40]
[03:27.10]Chapter 5.
[03:28.29]The Little Black Boy
[03:30.93]My mother bore me in the southern wild,
[03:33.67]And I am black, but oh my soul is white!
[03:37.87]White as an angel is the English child,
[03:41.19]But I am black, as if bereaved of light.
[03:44.16]My mother taught me underneath a tree,
[03:46.98]And, sitting down before the heat of day,
[03:50.26]She took me on her lap and kissed me,
[03:52.61]And, pointed to the east, began to say:
[03:56.23]“Look on the rising sun: there God does live,
[03:59.92]And gives his light, and gives his heat away,
[04:02.91]And flowers and trees and beasts and men receive
[04:06.43]Comfort in morning, joy in the noonday.
[04:10.62]And we are put on earth a little space,
[04:13.16]That we may learn to bear the beams of love
[04:15.80]And these black bodies and this sunburnt face
[04:18.89]Is but a cloud, and like a shady grove.
[04:22.09]For when our souls have learn'd the heat to bear,
[04:24.93]The cloud will vanish, we shall hear his voice,
[04:28.43]Saying, 'Come out from the grove, my love and care
[04:33.50]And round my golden tent like lambs rejoice'.”
[04:36.29]Thus did my mother say, and kissed me;
[04:39.04]And thus I say to little English boy.
[04:41.94]When I from black and he from white cloud free,
[04:44.90]And round the tent of God like lambs we joy
[04:48.31]I'll shade him from the heat till he can bear
[04:51.26]To lean in joy upon our Father's knee;
[04:53.94]And then I'll stand and stroke his silver hair,
[04:58.16]And be like him, and he will then love me.
[05:03.01]And of chapter 5.
[05:04.92]
[05:06.60]Chapter 6
[05:07.73]The Blossom
[05:09.91]Merry, merry sparrow!
[05:10.93]Under leaves so green
[05:13.38]A happy blossom
[05:14.69]Sees you, swift as arrow,
[05:16.80]Seek your cradle narrow,
[05:19.02]Near my bosom.
[05:20.62]Pretty, pretty robin!
[05:22.20]Under leaves so green
[05:23.76]A happy blossom
[05:24.86]Hears you sobbing, sobbing,
[05:27.11]Pretty, pretty robin,
[05:28.98]Near my bosom.
[05:30.41]And of chapter 6.
[05:32.42]
[05:34.11]Chapter 7
[05:35.32]The Chimney-sweeper
[05:37.84]When my mother died I was very young,
[05:40.41]And my father sold me while yet my tongue
[05:43.32]Could scarcely cry “Weep! weep! weep! weep!”
[05:48.61]So your chimneys I sweep, and in soot I sleep.
[05:54.42]There's little Tom Dacre, who cried when his head,
[05:58.64]That curled like a lamb's back, was shaved; so I said,
[06:01.65]“Hush, Tom! never mind it, for, when your head's bare,
[06:07.30]You know that the soot cannot spoil your white hair.”
[06:11.07]And so he was quiet, and that very night,
[06:14.03]As Tom was a-sleeping, he had such a sight! --
[06:17.36]That thousands of sweepers, ****, Joe, Ned, and Jack,
[06:21.86]Were all of them locked up in coffins of black.
[06:25.57]And by came an angel, who had a bright key,
[06:28.74]And he opened the coffins, and let them all free;
[06:32.60]Then down a green plain, leaping, laughing, they run,
[06:36.57]And wash in a river, and shine in the sun.
[06:39.95]
